Thailand's futsal team finished runners-up in the 5s Futsal Championship yesterday after they drew 2-2 with tournament winners Argentina at Nimibutr Gymnasium.
Thailand and Argentina had won two and drawn one game each but Argentina had a better goal difference.
Thailand's futsal coach Jose Maria Mendez said he was pleased with his team's performance because of Argentina's pedigree and that he had high hopes for the future.''I believe Thailand can become the top Asian futsal team,'' he said.
In the other match, Japan thrashed Vietnam 12-1 to finish third.
Thailand will play in the Fifa World Futsal Championship in Brazil from Sept 30 to Oct 19.

JIKA skuad bola sepak Malaysia memperbaiki kedudukan di ranking ke-161, anak buah ketua jurulatih P Balakrishnan yang turut membarisi skuad futsal lelaki kebangsaan mempunyai alasan lebih baik untuk berasa bangga.
Apa tidaknya, skuad futsal kebangsaan boleh dianggap ‘penyelamat maruah’ Persatuan Bola sepak Malaysia (FAM) apabila disenaraikan di kedudukan ke-57 dunia berbanding tangga ke-66 sebelum ini.
Dengan bertaraf amatur, kedudukan itu boleh dianggap berjaya dan Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Futsal Kebangsaan, Hamidin Mohd Amin berharap kedudukan itu akan lebih baik dengan bermulanya Liga Futsal Felda-FAM tidak lama lagi.

PETALING JAYA, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The Football Association Of Malaysia (FAM)'s desires to have a national futsal league were finally realised when Felda came forward to sponsor the competition to the tune of RM9 million.
FAM's futsal and beach football committee chairman, Hamidin Mohd Amin, said the amount was for three seasons till 2011 with RM3 million for each season.
"FAM thanks Felda for making this competition a reality," he told reporters at Wisma FAM in Kelana this evening.

Minta penjelasan tajaan lawatan Chelsea
KEKERUHAN hubungan antara Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) dan pihak penaja kini semakin jelas kelihatan apabila penaja utama Liga Malaysia, TM menghantar surat pertanyaan berhubung tindakan FAM mengetepikan pembabitan mereka ketika perlawanan dengan Chelsea pada 29 Julai itu.
Surat pertanyaan berhubung perkara itu sudah dihantar kepada Setiausaha Agung FAM, Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad pada 25 Ogos lalu dan kandungan surat itu turut menyoal tindakan FAM membabitkan syarikat telekomunikasi lain untuk perlawanan itu.

Kejohanan yang berlangsung di HTO de Futsal Subang Jaya itu menyaksikan Sport Planet Kajang yang dibarisi bekas penuntut Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan 3, Bangi, mudah mengetepikan Zie FC, 4-1 sekali gus membawa pulang wang tunai RM51,000.
Pengurus pasukan, Mohd Syahar Azizan, berkata kemenangan itu adalah pemangkin kepada pemainnya untuk lebih memberikan fokus kepada pertandingan akan datang selepas Aidilfitri nanti.

SELEPAS terkandas di separuh akhir, skuad negara akhirnya terpaksa berpuas hati apabila menduduki tempat ketiga hasil kejayaan menewaskan Brunei 8-2 pada Kejohanan Futsal Piala AFF, semalam.
Pengurusnya, Hamidin Mohd Amin, berkata walaupun perancangan awal mahu bertemu tuan rumah, Thailand di final tidak menjadi kenyataan, kejayaan merangkul tempat ketiga sudah boleh dibanggakan.
Beliau berkata, hasrat pemain negara itu disekat dengan kekalahan mengejut Thailand kepada Indonesia pada perlawanan terakhir peringkat Kumpulan A yang memaksa mereka bertemu skuad negara di separuh akhir, kelmarin.

BANGKOK (31 August 2008) – Hosts Thailand won their sixth straight title in the AFF Futsal Championship when they beat Indonesia 5-1 in the final that was played at the Nimibutr Stadium.
What made the victory more significant was the fact that the Thais were being represented by the national Under-21 squad who showed in the final today that they are capable of playing the game at a high pace.

BANGKOK (28 August 2008) – Malaysia picked up their second win with a 7-1 demolition of Brunei in Group B of the AFF Futsal Championship 2008 as hosts Thailand blasted Myanmar 7-2 in Group A here at the Nimibutr Stadium.
But Malaysia were again a little slow to settle down when they allowed Brunei to score the first goal in the ninth minute off Ranozakhran Tajuddin.
However, the Malaysian made full use of their experience to slam in the goals from Mohd Ruzaley in the 11th minute, Muhammad Fadhil Yusof (16th) and Muizzuddin Mohd Haris (20th) for a 3-1 at the half.

BANGKOK (27 August 2008) – Both Malaysia and Indonesia had to suffer some torrid moments in their first game of the AFF Futsal Championship 2008 before they were able to emerge 4-2 winners over Laos and Myanmar respectively at the Nimibutr Stadium.
Malaysian head coach P. Balakrishan said after the match that the team took the match against the newcomers a little too easy and almost paid the price for it.
“We woke up only after Laos scored the goal and after the pep talk during the break, they improved significantly,” said Balakrishnan after the game.
