KOTA KINABALU, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Libaran in Sandakan, Ranau and Kota Marudu will be getting Community Sports Complexes under the First Phase of the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Jahid Jahim told the Sabah State Assembly Tuesday.
He said sites for the purpose as well as for all the 25 parliamentary and 35 state constituencies in the state had been forwarded to the federal Youth and Sports Ministry last April.
Jahid was replying to Tan Sri Joseph Kurup (BN-Sook) during the question and answer session at the State Assembly's sitting here today. Joseph had wanted to know the state of the projects.
Jahid added that the complexes which needed 1.2 hectares each and costing between RM2 million and RM3 million each would provide facilities for futsal, badminton, netball, sepak takraw and gymnasiums when completed.
He also said that some urban areas might face difficulties in getting the complexes built because of the high cost of land.
However, in reply to a supplementary question from Jospeh, Jahid said there were no such problems for Sook and Nabawan as land for the complex sites identified there belonged to the state.
